Kaleb’s Journey of Courage and Joy
When Kaleb joined Gregg House on September 30, 2024, at just 10 months old, his bright smile and curious eyes immediately captured everyone’s hearts. From the very start, it was clear that Kaleb’s spirit shone brightly, even after a challenging beginning. Born six weeks early and diagnosed with congenital deafness, Kaleb spent his first days in the NICU on ventilation. Yet, despite his early struggles, he greeted the world with an infectious joy that continues to inspire all who know him.
In December, Kaleb faced another hurdle when he was hospitalized at Boston Children’s Hospital with chronic lung disease and sleep apnea. Returning home with a BiPAP machine to support his breathing during sleep was a big adjustment, but Kaleb’s bravery never wavered. With the care and consistency of our dedicated teachers and staff, he adapted quickly and continued to thrive. In time, he grew strong enough to no longer need the BiPAP during program time—a milestone worth celebrating for him and his family.
While Kaleb has met some developmental milestones later than others, he approaches every challenge with unstoppable determination. Today, he’s a bundle of energy—crawling at lighting speed, pulling himself to stand, exploring every corner of the classroom, and radiating joy wherever he goes. He loves being outdoors, discovering new things and has an appetite for both food and adventure!
Kaleb lives with his mom, Anastacia, in subsidized housing. She has shown incredible strength and openness, asking for help with pride and accepting support when needed, including clothing and diaper donations. She also relies on our transportation services to ensure Kaleb can attend the program consistently. His father, Christopher, is very involved, supporting Kaleb’s daily routines, transitions, and overall development. The family worked closely with their ongoing DCF social worker as a team, and while the DCF case is now closed, this collaboration was an important part of supporting Kaleb’s well-being.
Together, Kaleb and his family have faced medical, developmental, and life challenges with courage, resilience, and joy. Their story is a powerful reminder that love, support, and teamwork between child, family, and community can help a child shine no matter the obstacles.
